The Colorado chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier granted $5,500 in scholarships this year.

We are pleased to introduce you to the four esteemed scholarship recipients.

Culinary Creative Group Scholarship Winner

Bailey Kelly is a candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Science with an accompanying Business minor at Colorado State University. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA and has chosen this degree as it combines two of her passions, food science and nutritional health. She is inspired by the fact that “all human beings have some sort of relationship with food, and the complexities, differences, access, health implications, and science behind those varying nutritional relationships is my purpose.” She strives to effect true change in our country’s outlook on nutrition and contribute to the food revolution through public health systems, public education and food industries.

$1,000 Scholarship Winner

Emily Hogsett is attending Colorado State University where she is majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and was a member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) as a freshman in high school. She says “little did I know it would impact what I wanted to do for the rest of my life”. It was through her time in FCCLA and the relationship with her FCCLA adviser that she came to understand her passion for Family Consumer Sciences. She strives to help students on a deeper level who have a passion for FCS, leadership, and service. Of her future goals she “hopes to teach in a rural community where FCS is needed, but often disregarded because of the lack of FCS teachers. FCS life skills are needed for all people no matter where they live – including extremely rural communities.”

 

$1,000 Scholarship Winner

Ashley Cordova is a candidate for a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Metropolitan State University. She maintains a GPA of 3.96. She is passionate about helping people with their nutrition and health goals. “I want to help by increasing knowledge and capability, and therefore, confidence when it comes to food.” As a registered dietitian she is excited about working with real people and real food while continuing to become a better cook, counselor and expert in nutrition.

$1,000 Scholarship Winner

Kodi Clary is a candidate for a Bachelor degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Metropolitan State University where she maintains a 4.0 and participates numerous extracurricular activities around nutrition, health and food waste. As a change of career adult learner, Kodi took the pandemic as an opportunity to pursue a more rewarding career path. She has been “increasingly interested in community nutrition, and the ways I could help decrease health inequity by working with underserved populations”. Upon completing her education, internship and the registered dietitian certification exam she plans to work in community nutrition or eating disorder recovery. She has a passion for working with the WIC population guiding nutrition as well as focusing on new parents and babies helping clients meet their individual breastfeeding goals through getting her lactation counselor certification. She says “taking part in helping people heal their relationship with food and their bodies would be very meaningful.”
